Maestro Dobel is made by the same family that makes Jose Cuervo but under a different name. It's made in the lowlands which would make you think more of an earth tone taste... Buy surprisingly you taste vanilla, oak, and a very mild agave. When this tequila was first introduced it was $75 a bottle. I bought a smaller version (but bigger than the nipper) for $12. Maestro Dobel is clear, making you think it's a blanco... That is incorrect. It's a blend of Reposado, Anejo, and Extra Anejo aged 60-120 days in oak barrels. I rate this tequila by itself 2 out of 5 shots. But infused...
Last week on Monday I needed groceries. Blueberries are at the end of their season and I thought why not infuse something fresh before winter comes and nothing grows in this tundra called Minnesota?! I picked up 1 carton of blueberries and used about 2/3 of the package to infuse my tequila. I used the rest of the Maestro Dobel as I don't like to waste tequila but I wasn't going to be pushing anymore of that down myself without some help!
Fast-forward a week and I have this beautifully colored jar sitting on my counter. Every other day I would lightly shake the jar, just in case you plan to try this at home. I can officially say that my bottle of Maestro Dobel will not go to waste... The addition of the blueberries was exactly what this tequila needed! The blueberries give it a slightly sweet, easy to drink alone flavor. Hopefully before I finish it I can try a margarita. I can only imagine the great taste! With the addition of the blueberries I can re-rate this tequila to a 4 out of 5 shots! I think I've gone a little infusion crazy.
Happy Drinking!
Kate
